Difference Between King Duvets and King Comforters

The technical difference between a duvet and a comforter is that duvets have removable covers, while comforters do not.

If you are having a hard time finding a king size duvet, try asking for a king comforter. The technical difference between a duvet and a comforter is that duvets have removable covers, while comforters do not. You will be warm and cozy whether it has a removable cover or not.

In days gone by duvet covers where not so easy to remove, often they needed to be unstitched so that they could be taken off and washed. These days many duvet covers have a zipper for easy removal and replacing of the cover. Other popular methods for keeping a duvet cover closed, both then and now, include buttons or a flap that folds inside the cover.

Today’s king duvets sometimes are made even wider and longer than was sometimes required for both standard and California king beds. California kings (also known as western kings) are longer and more narrow than standard (or eastern) kings. Today’s bedding, including sheets, blankets, and comforters, often needs to be larger to accommodate both the newer deeper mattresses and those that are now constructed with an additional layer of padding on the top. All of these new things can end up being rather expensive.

Covers for King Duvets Can Be Purchased in Many Fabrics at Many Prices
There is an incredibly wide range of fabrics to choose from when you are purchasing a duvet cover. Some popular choices include linen, cotton, flannel, polyester, chambray, wool, microsuede, and chenille. The price will vary depending on the type of material that you are looking for, but a good range is about $50.00 for a cover on sale, to covers selling for well over $200.00. Of course, depending on the filling, the price for the king duvet itself will be much higher.
