It is almost impossible to find a down duvet that is 100 percent down, as tiny feathers get caught in the down that are not possible to remove. That being said, you should take extra care when purchasing down duvets from countries other than the United States. Some countries do not have strict labeling laws, so you could get a duvet that has considerably less down that you paid for. In some countries it is perfectly acceptable to label a duvet with only 85 percent down as 100 percent down.

Come countries, such as Canada, New Zealand, and the United States, are tightening their labeling standards as the result of consumer pressure. There have been too many people charged too much for too long a time. There are new large fines in place for manufacturers who fail to comply with the new strict labeling standards.

Of course, just because a down product is imported does not mean it is of lower quality. Additionally, having some feather is not in itself a bad thing. It is important that the customer know what they are purchasing. High quality duvets provide cozy warmth while still being lightweight, and there is hardly ever loose feather poking through. Duvet covers should be tightly woven, and yet still allow the down to breathe.

It is more likely that you will be willing to spend more money when you know exactly what you are buying. Luckily for most gift givers, duvets often arrive already boxed straight from the factory. If your gift duvet does not come in a box you will need to get more creative in your packaging. One cleaver idea is to use a lovely blanket or sheet instead of paper. All you need to do after that is place a beautiful bow on top.
