Density of Down Pillows

Pillows are not all 100% down, which is a good thing because they would all be very expensive if they were.

Down pillows usually come in firm, medium, or soft. Each manufacturer, however, has its own interpretation of those categories, so they will not be consistent across the board. Manufacturers are aware of these discrepancies and regularly get consumer feedback about their products. Even with the wide variation in filler among different brands firm, medium, and soft continue to be the standard descriptions for down pillows, comforters, and mattresses.

Medium or firm pillows generally work best for people who regularly sleep on their sides, as it will give the head and neck the support it needs to be in alignment with the rest of the body. Someone who regularly sleeps on their back will probably either want a very soft or very firm pillow. Stomach sleepers usually prefer either soft or medium pillows that have a lot of give. Picking just the right pillow is a very personal choice. Another factor in how comfortable a down pillow will be is the size of the person using it, so it should be a unique match for the particular person.

Pillows are not all 100% down, which is a good thing because they would all be very expensive if they were. Some very good pillows also include duck down, or a combination of goose down, feathers, and synthetic fill.

Being Certain of Buying the Right Set of Down Pillows
You may have to try out your down pillow before you know for sure that it is right for you. You should always check your merchants return policy, especially if purchasing your pillow over the Internet. There are some areas of the country where they have strict regulations about returning used bedding as part of local health regulations.
